Madison's Near East Side offers many advantages to home owners such as quick access downtown, many green spaces, and the eccentric Willy Street and Atwood Avenue. The area carries the same vintage style of the East Side of Madison. It is one of the most iconic areas featuring classic architectural styles from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
From any neighborhood in this part of Madison, you can get downtown with ease by bus, bike, or car. This part of Madison borders Lake Monona which has a bike trail outlining the lake all the way around.
Oblrich Botanical Gardens has 16 acres of gardens to walk through and Bolz Conservatory, which house exotic plants, flowers and birds. Sycamore Park and Hiestand Park are the largest parks in the area. There are many other smaller green spaces throughout.
Williamson Street (aka "Willy Street") and Atwood Avenue are well known to all of madison to their unique mix of shops, businesses, music venues, and businesses. The Willy Street Fair and Parade is an annual festival that celebrates the community and local musicians and businesses. Favorited Businesses include The Willy Street Co-op, the Crystal Corner Bar, Mother Fool's Coffee House, the Barrymore Theatre, Michael's Frozen Custard and Monty's Blue Plate Diner.
